STAMFORD, CT – Mayor David Martin announced all City tennis courts and golf courses will close to reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“Estimated projections suggest the peak of COVID-19 cases in Fairfield County will be in two or three weeks, which means the peak for transmission of this virus is right now,” said Mayor David Martin. “It has never been more important for residents to stay home, avoid gatherings, wash your hands frequently, and don’t touch your face.”
Governor Ned Lamont shared the state’s estimated projections for when COVID-19 hospitalizations would peak in Fairfield County, New Haven County, and Hartford County. These projections suggest Fairfield County will reach peak hospitalizations the week of April 26th.
City tennis courts are closed effectively immediately. Golf courses will be closed to the public effective Friday, April 10th. The City continues to pursue measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Stamford by looking to other surrounding communities. Many golf courses across lower Fairfield County have been closed for the safety of the public. Even as closures continue, the City of Stamford encourages residents to practice social distancing by staying at home when possible. This has proven to be one of the best steps individuals can take to keep our community safe from COVID-19.
Mayor Martin previously ordered the closure of all City playgrounds and fields. One month ago, Stamford was one of the first cities in Connecticut to implement extensive preventative measures for COVID-19 transmission and ordered social distancing guidelines for businesses prior to Governor Ned Lamont’s extensive executive orders for all state businesses.
