Norwalk, CT – City officials are working closely with partners at the state and federal levels, as well as partners in Norwalk, to monitor and respond to COVID-19, the 2019 novel Coronavirus. Statewide updates can be found online at ct.gov/coronavirus. Mayor Rilling provided the following Norwalk-area specific updates regarding COVID-19 coronavirus as of 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020:

  • Since yesterday, there are 29 new positive cases in Norwalk, bringing the total positive reported cases in Norwalk to 464. In Fairfield County, the number of new positive cases went from 2,716 to 2,824. The age and sex of these individuals will not be released. The public is asked to continue to take precautions as community spread is likely happening across the state.
  • Yesterday, April 3, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new recommendations on the use of cloth face masks and coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Local officials emphasize that these recommendations should not be viewed as a coronavirus cure. Click here for more information.
  • The Mayor’s Citywide Spring Cleanup, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 has been postponed.
  • With warmer weather upon us, City officials remind the public that playgrounds, courts, and school recreational facilities are closed. Vehicular access is also restricted at Calf Pasture Beach, Taylor Farm, Flax Hill Park, and Veteran’s Park.
  • Governor Lamont gave an update yesterday that projects the peak of hospitalization stays for Fairfield County is still a few weeks away. Officials urge residents to continue adhering to social distancing guidelines, as it remains the best way to flatten the curve. The Governor’s presentation can be viewed here.

“I know it’s been a rough few weeks. For many of us, our daily lives have been turned upside down. We will get back to normal someday, but please Norwalk, continue taking all the necessary precautions to slow the spread of coronavirus,” Mayor Rilling said. “I know it will be hard with warm weather approaching and the urge to see friends and loved ones, even if just for a few minutes. We must all continue doing our part. Hang in there Norwalk – I know we can do this.”
