Stamford, CT – Opening Day for Stamford Stars Softball (Stamford Troy Softball Inc.) is Saturday April 17 at Troy Fields, Cove Island Park. Girls ages 4-13 may register to try out and play softball from now until opening day. Stamford Stars is the only youth softball league operating that is sanctioned by the City of Stamford. The athletic league has been facilitating softball in Stamford for decades, and the Stamford Stars play in the Babe Ruth Softball League, a nationally run organization that organizes youth baseball and softball nationwide.

The Stars offers house and travel softball team opportunities for young and teenage players. The house league and games are all played at their home fields (Troy 1 and 2 at Cove Island, Newfield School 1&2, Stillmeadow and Rogers Elementary Schools.) against teams that are all comprised of girls registered in the league which is divided into 4 divisions of play: Rookies – Age 4-6, Mini’s – Age 6-8, Minors – Ages 8-10 and Majors – Ages 11-13.

Minor and major evaluations and try-outs for Spring/Summer 2021 will occur on March 27 at Stamford High School from 1-5 pm (no evaluations will be required for Rookies and Mini’s.) Spring house games begin mid-April and finish with a championship weekend in mid-June. The cost for the house league season is between $125-$165 per player depending on the division of play. Financial Aid is available for players to participate in the house league. “Our league has been part of the fabric of Stamford and the youth athletic community for decades.” “The league has continuously provided a great and safe environment for girls to learn the game of softball while being taught all of the leadership skills and values that come with participating in team sports.” “Our league focuses on sportsmanship, competition, fun and inclusion,” said Bryan Fox, Vice President of Stamford Stars. “And this year, we hope to inspire many more young players to participate to help carry on the spirit of softball and youth sports,” states Fox.

“It is part of our mission to provide a low-cost opportunity for players to participate, and thanks to several local charity organizations we are able to offer reduced pricing for families who may need it,” said Mike Orgera, President of Stamford Star. “Our board believes in the positive influence that team sports provide for all children, and specifically young women,” states Orgera. “With new board members, legacy softball families and our long-lasting foundation, we have set the stage for a great 2021 season,” said Orgera.

Stamford Stars also offers a travel team for players who participate in the house league. Travel softball offers competition against other towns and more time for players to dedicate to the sport. The league offers four travel teams: U8, U10, U11, U12. Tryouts for these teams have taken place for the 2021 season however, the U8 team has not yet been chosen and will be chosen in early Spring. The league adheres to all state and association Covid-19 safety guidelines. For more information about tryouts, free clinics or joining the house league go to www.stamstars.com
