Stamford, CT – Stamford Public Schools’ (SPS) is proud to announce that the Westover Elementary School community collected more than 2,440 pairs of socks! Socks will be donated to local organizations including Person to Person, Inspirica, Community Closet, and Pivot Ministry. A bundle of socks will also be dropped off in NYC during an upcoming midnight run. The socks were collected throughout the month of October by students, staff and families. 500 pairs were donated from BOMBAS, an apparel brand known for its support of homelessness-related charity.

Led by 5th grade teacher Heather Stramandinoli, and supported by the 5th grade classes, the entire Westover Community was involved in the initiative with staff and students choosing local community organization that support many in need in our surrounding area. Westover has participated in this collection for a number of years, although this year’s total exceeded all expectations.

“Socks are the most needed item but the least donated. Everyone wears socks!” explained Westover Principal, Lisa Saba-Price. “This year the entire 5th grade worked together by making posters and promoting donations with Tik Tok dances that were created in dance class. We were able to take something as simple as a pair of socks to make a positive difference in someone else’s life by showing we cared. No act of kindness for others is too small.”
