Stamford, CT – Nonprofits LiveGirl, the United State of Women (USOW), and the Mill River Park Collaborative are joining forces to celebrate the International Day of the Girl on Saturday, October 9th.
The event, under the theme, “My Voice, Our Equal Future,” will provide plenty of inspirational opportunities to experience firsthand what adolescent girls see as the change they want and the solutions – big and small – they are spearheading and demanding across the globe. The Day of the Girl Rally will feature inspiring speakers, live music, networking opportunities, a community art mural, food trucks, and more.
LiveGirl Founder and CEO Sheri West shared, “On the Day of the Girl, we will be part of a global effort to raise the diversity of girls’ voices and their vision for a reimagined future.”
West continued, “It will focus attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girl empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”
Highlighting the day will be speakers Mari Copeny (“Little Miss Flint” activist) and Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs (She Will Speak poetic activist & screenwriter), and live music by Broadway star Brennyn Lark and DJ Q-Boogie. Female-owned businesses will round out the festive environment.
USOW Connecticut Ambassador Brittney Yancy shared, “The International Day of the Girl celebrates the work of girls and youth across the globe amplifying and working together to protect their basic human rights. USOW joins LiveGirl in inviting girls and youth across Connecticut who are on the frontlines and change agents in movements focused on educational equity, reproductive justice, racial equity, environmental justice, and more. We recognize their global imprint and celebrate their work to break barriers.”
The International Day of the Girl Celebration is made possible by sponsors Pitney Bowes, the Fairfield County Community Foundation, and HTG Investment Advisors. All are welcome. The event is free of charge but registration is required at https://golivegirl.org/dayofthegirl
