The Maritime Aquarium Partners with Preservation Society For Public Tours of Greens Ledge Lighthouse

news

Norwalk, CT – The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk and The Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society today announced a new series of public cruises starting in June that include an exclusive tour of the recently-restored lighthouse located off the coast of Norwalk.

“Greens Ledge Lighthouse is always a point of interest for our guests on our public cruises,” said The Maritime Aquarium Captain Lou Zicari. “We’re pleased to partner with the Preservation Society as they begin to welcome guests to this site, which holds great historical significance to our community.”

“After five years of restoration work including major structural repairs, we are excited to be partnering with The Maritime Aquarium to share this treasure of maritime history that was potentially one storm away from being lost to time,” said The Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society President Tim Pettee. “We share a common mission of conservation and preservation of our coastal environs for visitors today and generations to come.”

The tours will depart from The Maritime Aquarium. Guests should arrive 15 minutes ahead of their scheduled tour. Dates and times:

Saturday, June 10, at 9 a.m.
Saturday, July 8, at 9 a.m.
Saturday, August 12, at 9 a.m.

The cruises to the lighthouse will be held on the Aquarium’s research vessel, Spirit of the Sound – the first in the nation with quiet hybrid-electric propulsion. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and fully-restored in 2022, Greens Ledge Lighthouse is one of the only active lighthouses in the world offering full-access interior and exterior tours.

Passengers must be at least 42-inches tall and wear sturdy, close-toed shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted at the lighthouse, where guests will be walking up and down steep stairways.

The excursions are approximately three hours long. Reservations are strongly recommended as space is limited to 40 guests. Tickets are $69 per person. Those under 18-years-old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
