Stamford, CT – Stamford Public Schools (SPS) released its 2018-2019 Annual Report to the Community, which is now available on the SPS district website and soon will be in mailboxes of homes and businesses across the city. The report is being distributed along with 8,000 copies of Stamford Plus magazine’s summer edition.
The report provides a look back at the 2018-2019 school year and includes profiles of and insights from administrators, teachers and graduating students, as well as alumni who value their educational roots in SPS. Two Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) alumni and brothers played a key role in its production, one serving as its designer and the other as the primary photographer for the report.
“While the 2018-2019 school year seems like a lifetime ago, it is important each year to look back to monitor our progress, identify our challenges and celebrate our successes,” said Lucero. “It is refreshing to hear from staff and students, who are instrumental in the success of our schools as well as from successful alumni, who share their experiences as graduates of SPS.”
The 2018-2019 Annual Report to the Community features SPS staff: Stamford High School (SHS) Assistant Principal and Alumnus Rafael Escobar; Julia A. Stark Fifth Grade Teacher and SHS Alumna Katelyn Tavolacci, the 2019-2020 Stamford Teacher of the Year; and Turn of River Grade 8 English Teacher Debra Wilson, the first finalist for Stamford Teacher of the Year.
The report celebrates AITE Senior Leslie Guerra (Yale University Class of 2024), SHS Senior Santiago Grisales (Naval Academy Prep School) and Westhill High School (WHS) Senior Kary-Ann McDowell (Norwalk Community College).
Many SPS alumni attribute the skills and knowledge gained during time spent in SPS to their current success. This year’s report features Daniel Adams, creative lead at Cratejoy and graphic designer of the report (AITE alumnus); Brien Adams, musician and photographer (AITE alumnus); Sandra Canales, casework administrative coordinator, Person-to-Person (SPS Adult Education graduate); and Moon Duchin, associate professor Mathematics Tufts University (SHS alumna).
