Stamford, CT – Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), a department of Columbia University in New York City, recently awarded The Round Table, Stamford High School’s (SHS) digital student newspaper, a Gold Medal for 2019-2020. The paper earned a total score of 896 out of a possible 1,000 points. This is the sixth time The Round Table has achieved Gold Medal status.
The scoring committee evaluated the paper in three categories: essentials, verbal and visual. The judge praised the publication for its professional and consistent coverage, writing, “It’s apparent that you have students who care, who are talented, and who want to produce good quality work. Great copy and journalistic writing throughout.”
“It was particularly difficult to produce a quality publication this year, since so many student activities and events were limited or canceled due to the pandemic,” said SHS Teacher and The Round Table Advisor Jonathan Ringel. “It’s been a bit of a scramble at times over the last year, but the editorial staff and writing team really came together to produce a bunch of work they should be proud of, especially under such difficult circumstances.”
The Round Table covers district and school-related events and topics, and can be viewed at https://shsroundtable.com/.
