Independence Day Celebration at Norwalk Historical Society’s Mill Hill Historic Park

NORWALK, CT – The Norwalk Historical Society’s annual Independence Day Celebration and Bell Ringing Ceremony returns in person to Mill Hill Historic Park on Monday, July 4, 2022 at 1:30pm. This exciting program includes the “Let Freedom Ring” Bell Ringing Ceremony and an illustrated slide lecture, “Connecticut During the American Revolution”, by Norwalk Historical Society board member and Norwalk Historical Commissioner, Eric Chandler. Light refreshments to follow. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Mill Hill Historic Park is located at 2 East Wall Street in Norwalk, CT. Handicapped and limited mobility parking on site. General parking is at the Family Center/HSC building on the corner of East Wall Street and Park Street. Follow blue parking signs.

At 1:30pm, the annual “Let Freedom Ring” Bell Ringing Ceremony will begin. The Town House bell will toll 13 times to commemorate the founding of the original 13 colonies. Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will take part in the ceremony and selected sections of the Declaration of Independence will be read by Norwalk’s Town Clerk, Rick McQuaid. The National Anthem will be performed by BMHS alumni, Bill King.

Immediately following will be the illustrated slide lecture, “Connecticut During the American Revolution”, by Norwalk Historical Society board member and Norwalk Historical Commissioner, Eric Chandler. Learn how Connecticut played an extraordinarily large role in the American War for Independence. This presentation reviews the importance of Connecticut and those whose actions proved significant during the eight years of conflict. Our award-winning exhibition, “Norwalk’s Changing Communities: 13,000 BC – 1835”, will be on view. Light refreshments served.
