CROMWELL, CT – On December 10th, during their virtual Annual Meeting, Better Business Bureau Serving Connecticut (BBB) announced the winners of the 2020 Marketplace Excellence Awards. This year’s awards were revamped to reflect the current business arena were designed to highlight businesses that hold ethics as a core value in their day to day operations. The awards were open to all businesses in Connecticut, not just those Accredited by BBB.
2020 Marketplace Excellence Award Winners:
Community Care Award – Bartlett Brainard Products Co., Inc., West Hartford, CT.
President Cathy Davis created “A Day of Caring” for West Hartford. This event is aimed at the elderly, handicapped, or military that need help with jobs around the house. Volunteers from the community join their staff to repair things like railings, ceilings, gutters, roofs, and more. Bartlett Brainard Products also actively collects donations from their staff and customers for the West Hartford Food Bank.
Spark Award – Home Hearing, West Hartford, CT.
Home Hearing is a company that embodies the three C’s of trust: character, culture, and community in all ways. In response to the pandemic, owner Nick Wills has not only driven to people’s homes to safely pick-up and repair hearing aids at no cost, he has also donated PPE to Hartford area senior living residences and homeless shelters. Nick has worked tirelessly to help his patients stem the isolation they have felt over the past several months.
Diversity Entrepreneur Award – Hair By Julia Moore, Norwalk, CT.
Owner Julia Moore is also the Founder/CEO of the Y.L.T.R.A.P.P.E.D. Organization, whose mission is for the betterment of young ladies ages 14-21. The overall mission of the organization is to develop young girls into empowered productive women in society by building strength, knowledge, and self-confidence while forming a strong unity within the community and thriving towards success.
Phoenix Award: Control Station, Manchester, CT.
During the first six months of 2020 Control Station, Inc. reshaped its business by embracing the delivery of engineering services through remote means and by recasting itself as the leading platform-independent provider of process analytics and optimization services. Like the Phoenix, the company repositioned itself through these actions in order to adapt to the effects of the novel coronavirus and effectively transformed the company and placed it on a path of rapid growth.
Innovative Marketing Award – ISoldMyHouse.com, Manchester, CT
ISoldMyHouse.com created a “Home Quarantine Photo Contest” where participants could send their favorite photo that best represents their time at home under lockdown. The grand prize of $500 and the runner-up prize of $250 generated lots of excitement and the contest generated over 400 entries. This contest helped the company capture leads, generate website traffic, and reach over 160,000 people on social media.
There were also several honorable mentions including BASE Technologies Inc. (Community Care), LeClaire Lawncare (Spark), Handyworks Remodeling and Design (Phoenix), and Advanced Radiology (Innovative Marketing).
