New Britain, CT - The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently recognized Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, Inc. (NEEP) and the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, in partnership with the Connecticut Light and Power Company and The United Illuminating Company, for its success in executing programs that promote the use of ENERGY STAR® qualified products, services and practices.

“The Energy Efficiency Fund is proud to be a part of the implementation of such high quality programs, and we would like to thank the EPA for recognizing our collaborative efforts with NEEP,” said Richard W. Steeves, First Vice Chairperson, Energy Efficiency Board. “Encouraging residents to incorporate ENERGY STAR lighting and technologies into their everyday lives makes a significant difference in the reduction of energy use, which is a wise investment in our energy future.”

Key regional accomplishments by utility companies in the Northeast that were recognized include:

· Leveraging over $26 million in combined manufacturer and retailer discounts to promote ENERGY STAR qualified lighting, resulting in the sale of more than 9.9 million standard and specialty CFLs, 276,302 fixtures, and introducing LEDs to consumers -- with nearly 166,000 sold;

· Providing incentives of more than $7.7 million resulting in the sale of nearly 166,000 ENERGY STAR qualified appliances;

· Building strong retailer relationships with 4,039 active retail partners;

· Conducting comprehensive advertising and marketing outreach efforts including radio, television, web and print media, while increasing the use of social media to engage the public; and

· Saving more than 5 million mega-watt hours in lifetime energy savings through its activities as well as more than 3.86 million tons in greenhouse gas emission reductions.

“NEEP is committed to speeding the adoption of high efficiency products in the region through our partnership with the Energy Efficiency Fund as part the Retail Products Initiative,” said Sue Coakley, Executive Director, NEEP. “By leveraging our resources, our initiative, which collectively serves over 15 million households, is able to yield more energy and cost savings for families and businesses than through individual program efforts. We are very proud of the Fund for its tremendous efforts in helping to make the Northeast a sustained leader in energy efficiency, and our regional success a direct result of the commitment it dedicates to accelerating energy efficiency for our environment, our economy, and our communities.”

Other NEEP partners joining the Fund in this recognition include: Cape Light Compact, National Grid (Massachusetts, Rhode Island), NSTAR Electric, Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECO), NHSaves (National Grid, Unitil, Public Service of New Hampshire, New Hampshire Electric Co-op), Efficiency Vermont, Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA).

The 2012 Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, employing innovative approaches and showing others what can be achieved through energy efficiency. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
